威廉王子伉儷到訪聯合國兒童基金會哥本哈根物流中心呼籲全球關注活在險境的東非兒童

哥本哈根，丹麥／香港，2011年11月3日——英國皇室、劍橋公爵威廉王子及公爵夫人凱瑟琳王妃於昨日下午，專程到訪聯合國兒童基金會（UNICEF）的救援行動根據地——哥本哈根全球物流中心，以行動呼籲公眾關注東非的人道危機，繼續向逾320,000名徘徊死亡邊緣的嚴重營養不良兒童伸出援手。

UNICEF全球物流中心的倉庫面積相當於3個足球場，負責供應、包裝及分發救援物資至全球各地，幫助有需要的兒童。當中包括食物、食水、治療營養不良兒童的特別營養補給品、疫苗、教材及緊急醫療包。

UNICEF’s supply centre includes a warehouse the size of three football pitches where essential supplies for children around the globe are sourced, packed and distributed. These include food, water, special nutritional supplies for the most malnourished children, vaccines, education materials and emergency medical kits. Whilst at the supply centre both couples were iefed on the desperate situation in the region by UNICEF specialists. The royal couples then joined UNICEF warehouse staff on packing line, and helped to pack emergency health kits, ready to be sent to East Africa. Each kit will provide life-saving supplies to over 1000 people. The Duke and Duchess and the Crown Prince and Princess then toured the warehouse, seeing the huge variety of supplies that are sent to emergencies around the world, including ready-to-use therapeutic food for severely malnourished children under five years old and supplementary food to support-families, emergency health kits, vaccines and water supplies including water purification tablets. At the end of their visit the Duke of Camidge said “An incredible amount is being done. UNICEF索馬里營養專員Peter Hailey先生隨即爭取時間，向兩對皇室伉儷講解現時東非的嚴峻災情。他坦言，現時在災區有無數兒童及其家庭，不時徒步25天，方尋得一夕溫飽等，情況實在苦不堪言。

了解過災區情況後，他們便前往視察包裝流程，了解運送救援物資到東非前的準備工作。4名負責包裝的員工向他們展示並介紹各種醫療物資，包括一些必需的藥物及緊急手術工具等的包裝過程，兩對皇室伉儷更親自參與包裝工序，與UNICEF員工一起將緊急健康包入箱，每箱緊急健康包可為逾1,000人送上拯救生命的物資。

其後，英國及丹麥皇室伉儷再一同參觀倉庫，考察林林種種即將送抵世界各地的救援物資，當中包括專為治療5歲以下嚴重營養不良兒童而設的即食醫療食品、為有需要家庭提供的補充食品、緊急健康包、疫苗及淨水丸等物資。

參觀完畢後，威廉王子指出：「全球物流中心內的物資數量驚人，可見UNICEF的救援準備工作相當完備。可是現時仍有很多人急需救助，需要做的工作仍然有很多，而這正正是我們今日來到這裡的原因。」

凱瑟琳王妃進一步補充此行的原因說：「我們很希望可以將公眾的焦點，再一次放回東非的災情。」威廉王子接著作出深情呼籲：「只要是做得到、幫得到的，大家就請伸出援手。」

離開全球物流中心後，威廉公爵伉儷再轉到哥本哈根機場，親眼目睹一批準備運往肯尼亞首都奈洛比的物資，上載到英國航空及UPS貨運航機的情況。

自10月26日兩對皇室伉儷宣佈造訪UNICEF全球物流中心起，各界對是次賑災捐款的呼籲反應非常熱烈。供應部主任Shanelle Hall女士表示：「我們很高興英國皇室、劍橋公爵威廉王子及公爵夫人凱瑟琳王妃，以及丹麥皇室伉儷來到視察全球物流中心，深入了解整個救援物資的運送流程與規模，以及體會這些物資對營養不良的兒童及其家庭是何等重要。他們此行已成功喚起全球各地對東非目前災況的關注，幫助我們籌集得更多的物資，繼續支援災區的救援行動。」

本年，UNICEF仍需善款港幣3億1,200萬元（即4,000萬美元），以拯救仍然處於水深火熱之中的東非受災兒童。而來年的善款需求則達到逾港幣31億4,000萬元（即4億280萬美元），當中約港幣23億4,000萬元（即3億美元）將用以穩定UNICEF索馬里辦事處的醫療及補充餵飼的供應。

UNICEF的東非救援工作重點：

• UNICEF為災區內的高蛋白花生醬主要供應者，並與各合作夥伴確保物資成功送到待救兒童的手中。

• 由7至10月，位於哥本哈根的UNICEF全球物流中心已將逾24,396公噸救援物資送抵災區。
