Amid COVID-19, the number of people participating in Thankathon was limited. UNICEF HK looks forward to thanking more donors at the next Thankathon.
Hong Kong, 22 December 2020 ── To recognize the generosity of our donors for their steadfast support and commitment to children’s well-being, UNICEF HK organized its first-ever Thankathon. The event was also part of the global Thankathon events started by the UNICEF headquarters.
Hong Kong’s Thankathon received strong support from UNICEF HK Chairman Ms Judy Chen and members of the UNICEF HK Council. Through telephone conversations with donors, Ms Chen and council members expressed their appreciation for their support and delivered heartfelt Christmas wishes to them.
While the event helped us to thank our donors, it also incidentally gave our donors an opportunity to share their stories. Ms Judy Chen recalled, “The most unforgettable moment was my conversation with 80-year old grandma Yip. Every month, she goes to the teller counter at the bank to make a donation, and she has been doing this for six years, rain or shine! When I asked why she kept on doing this, she told me her late husband was a long-term supporter of UNICEF HK. When her husband passed away, she was determined to continue the giving so that her late husband’s belief could live on.”
On the day of Thankathon, not only seniors received our calls of appreciation but also children and their families. Nine-year old Brontie sold her self-made Children’s Day cards, and all the proceeds were donated to UNICEF. This act of kindness really demonstrated the spirit of kids helping kids, and UNICEF HK was deeply moved by her action. In addition to saying thanks, we also sent our Christmas wishers to her family.
We received a lot of heartwarming feedback from the event, and that helped us to understand what motivated our donors to keep supporting UNICEF HK. We deeply thank for their trust and support, and we would also like to make it clear that donations of every size count, as some small donors were surprised to receive our thank you calls. No matter how much one donates, the funds can support our work to deliver assistance to children in need. We look forward to thanking more donors at the next Thankathon, and we hope that more people can open their hearts and wallets to safeguard the well-being of children.
