Hong Kong, 11 January 2019 ─ The Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK) launched “for every child, #EatPlayLove” 2019 (the Event) at Stanley Plaza today. This was to continue our efforts to promote the key essences of early childhood development: Eat, Play, Love to parents and caregivers following the Event’s debut in 2018.

Mrs. Michelle Wong Yau Wai-ching, JP, Deputy Secretary for Education, HKSARG; Dr. Chu Ching-hong, BBS, JP, Chairman of Southern District Council; Mrs. Dorothy Ma Chow Pui-fun, JP, District Officer (Southern) of Home Affairs Department, HKSARG; Mrs. Chan Lee Pui-ying, Member of Southern District Council; Ms. Auey Ho, Director of Corporate Affairs and Marketing of Link Asset Management Limited, together with Miss Au King-chi, GBS, JP, Chairman of UNICEF HK’s Advocacy & PR Committee; and Ms. Jane Lau, Chief Executive of UNICEF HK, kicked off the Event which spans over the weekend of 11 January to offer useful knowledge on early childhood development.

The three-day community engagement event is designed for parents and children to get an authentic taste of free play through activities and workshops. The outdoor Imagination Playground, filled with building blocks in various shapes, offers a free play environment for kids to ignite their creativity. New this time is a “Ferry Floating Classroom” travelling between Stanley and Aberdeen with parenting talks with interactive play presented by Dr. Sylvia Liu, Centre for Advancement in Inclusive and Special Education of the Faculty of Education at The University of Hong Kong. In addition, there are different themed workshops led by professional speakers, demonstrating nurturing care tips for parents and caregivers.

In her welcoming remarks, Miss Au King-chi said, “With the generous support of the Southern District Office, Southern District Council and Link Asset Management Limited, UNICEF HK is able to reach out to more parents and children to promote the importance of nutrition, stimulation as well as parental and nurturing care in early childhood development. We shall continue to collaborate with the government, private sector and district leaders in making a positive impact on the healthy development of children in Hong Kong.”

Meanwhile, Ms. Jane Lau, pointed out the importance of positive and responsive parenting, and this can be achieved by positive communication, recognition and acceptance, as well as quality and responsive interaction.

All activities at the Event are free of charge. Enrolment is required, and it is handled on a first-come-first-served basis. Due to the overwhelming response, the first batch of pre-registration quota made available online has already been filled. However, the remaining quotas are available on site, and parents and kids are encouraged to visit us and enrol at the venue.
