HONG KONG/17 March 2022 -A special school eak in March and April amidst fifth wave of COVID-19 has caught parents and students by surprise. UNICEF HK’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) eLearning Award Scheme designed for Secondary 1 to 6 students empowers our next generation to take online lessons on different SDGs when they stay safe at home.

Stay Home and Explore Unlimited Possibilities of Sustainability

The Scheme translates SDGs into action. Participants would connect online and offline learning experience, take practical steps in daily life and gain understanding on SDGs such as climate action, no poverty and reduced inequalities that aims for building a better world by 2030.

Learn + Action! Get a Gold, Silver or Bronze Award

The SDGs eLearning Award Scheme comprises ‘Learn’ and ‘Action’ components, complete online courses and SDG actions to receive a Gold, Silver or Bronze Award.

Open for Enrolment

The Scheme has received enthusiastic participation of more than 2,100 students from 69 schools to date. Enrolment is open until 31 March 2022 and vacancies are limited. We welcome teachers and parents to recommend the Scheme to their students and children of Secondary 1 to 6.

UNICEF HK hopes the SDGs eLearning Award Scheme demonstrate and promote digital learning tools that students would enjoy active learning by applying their creativity and problem-solving skills, the primary goal of UNICEF “Reimagine Education” initiative.

It takes joint efforts from every member of our community to help children keep learning during class suspension. More attention shall be paid on the pandemic’s alarming impact on children. UNICEF HK calls for public support to empower students accessing education resources through books, online and other formats during the special anti-epidemic school eak.

Globally, an entire generation of children has seen its education interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At their peak, nationwide closures disrupted the learning of 1.57 billion students with devastating consequences. Marginalized children pay the heaviest price as inequalities in learning widen. Some 346 million young people do not have access to the internet for remote learning. Children who are out of school for extended periods, especially girls, are less likely to return.

UNICEF HK cares about the rights of every child in Hong Kong and worldwide. In addition to caring for local children’s needs, we urge the public to lend a helping hand to helpless children living in places more vulnerable and dangerous than Hong Kong.
