Official Launch of UNICEF HK 2021 “Discover, for every child” Virtual Run eConnect with Runners to Advocate “Reimagine Education” for Every Child

Hong Kong, 15 December 2021 – Organized by Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF HK), “Discover, for every child” virtual run, will be held from December 21, 2021 to January 27, 2022. Registration will commence from December 16 to join running with friends for every child to enjoy their rights of education.

In the past two years, schools are suspended due to the epidemic. Preexisting education problems are turned into a crisis causing serious impact to students' learning, health and well-being. As of July 2021, 600 million children worldwide are still out of school and an additional 2.38 million children are estimated to permanently drop out of school. UNICEF’s "Reimagine Education" responds to the situation and provides educational resources for children in need. The funds raised from the virtual running event will be used to support various projects of the " Reimagine Education" initiative.
To announce the official launch of the virtual run event, a special Kick-off Ceremony was held on 15 Dec 2021 with Ms. Judy Chen, Chairman of UNICEF HK; Mrs. Bonnie Li, Fundraising Committee Chairman of UNICEF HK; Ms. Chan Hoi-wan, Director of Trustee of The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust; Ms. Agnes Lee, Senior Manager, H.K. & Macau Executive Office, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Ltd.; Ms. Gloria Lam, Public Engagement Manager, Corporate Affairs, Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. and Mr. Wong Kam-po, UNICEF HK Goodwill Ambassador officiated the ceremony.
Ms. Judy Chen, Chairman of UNICEF HK stated that UNICEF Charity Run has been very popular. With the run being held virtually this year, she invited all to participate. “Running in this virtual race is not only healthy and enjoyable, we could also ‘Reimagine education’ for the children and redefine their future. Join us on this meaningful event!"

Ms. Chan Hoi-wan, Principal Sponsor of the event and Director of Trustee of The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust said, “The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust recognizes UNICEF HK’s charitable work. We encourage people to do more exercise, stay healthy and help more children in need by joining the “Discover, for every child” virtual run. We wish the virtual run every success and more children to benefit from this event.”
UNICEF HK introduced “Discover, for every child” virtual run to the public during the event. Runners can start anytime anywhere during the event period and their running data could be synchronized to the UNICEF HK mobile app to accumulate points. Participants would gain double points for completing the “Weekend Challenge” which will be released throughout the 5 weeks event. The higher the score one achieves, the more children would benefit.
After introduction of the event, Ms. Judy Chen and Ms. Chan Hoi-wan announced UNICEF's "Discover, For Every Child" virtual run’s official launch in the kick-off ceremony. UNICEF HK appreciates the great support from The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust for the sponsorship, where the Charitable Trust will donate HK$10 for every 1 kilometer distance completed by participants. The virtual run aims to make running a meaningful activity and encourage people to continue helping children in need around the world.

Mr. Wong Kam-po, UNICEF HK Goodwill Ambassador was also invited to the Kick-off Ceremony. Mr. Wong, a former Olympic cyclist who is now a father, stated that every child should have the right to education and encourage people to join the virtual run to help children sustain this right.
Ms. Judy Chen, Chairman of UNICEF HK, presented certificates to sponsors, including The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Ltd., S.F. Express (Hong Kong) Limited, Cathay Pacific Airways Limited to express sincere gratitude for their support.
UNICEF “Discover, For Every Child” virtual run starts registration from December 16, 2021
No need to pre-select race category at registration, simply make a minimum donation of HK$160 (individual runner) to enter and start running to collect points. The farther you run, the more children will receive educational opportunities with the matching donation. It also means greater chances for you to get fabulous rewards!

During the activity period, you will get 200 points for every 1 kilometer run, and you will get double points if you join the "Weekend Challenge"! The accumulated points means that more children will have access to learning opportunities, and you can enjoy your personal rewards at the same time!
^ Matching donation is subject to an upper limit and will be donated to UNICEF HK under the name of sponsor.
Rewards for participants will be updated from time to time. The farther you run, the higher the chance for you to get a fitness tracker!
